The second HomePod software beta update adds an option to select a new default service for Apple Music, Podcasts, and Audiobooks as noted on Twitter and the MacRumors forum. Click on the bottom 'More apps' - Scroll to the bottom and select 'Look for another app on this PC' - At the top of the window insert this:%AppData% - Find and enter the folder Spotify - Choose Spotify.exe - Click 'Open' at the bottom or double click Spotify.exe.

For me, that’s still Google Play Music, but many of you may have already made the transition to YouTube Music. Or maybe you use some of the other popular options that Assistant plays nice with like Spotify, Pandora, and iHeartRadio.
Not sure if your app of choice is supported? Simply ask Google. Assistant will let you know if your music portal is able to communicate with Google’s AI units. Good luck and happy listening!
