Spotify is coming to Facebook and Instagram Stories. Facebook announced at its annual F8 developer conference on Tuesday a new feature that lets you share content from third-party apps onto your. Spotify on Facebook is classified as a third-party platform app, which is a mini-application that plugs into Facebook. In your Facebook account’s settings, you can actually block certain apps from appearing or turn off platform apps altogether. Facebook has countless apps, and it’s possible that once upon a time, you (inadvertently, of course) blocked Spotify.
I have been enjoying the new Timeline design that people tend to whine about.
One of my favourite apps is the Spotify integration; it shares with friends what music you are listening to and it then compiles the data at the end of the month to show your favourite albums, musicians and songs for that month by how many times you have listened.
Of course, you can opt out if you don’t want people to see what your listening to or you can set Spotify to a ‘Private Session,’ which temporarily hides what you are listening to from Facebook friends
Alice in Chains always dominates my most listened to albums list and I have managed to convert a few friends to fans.
Now here’s my problem the compiled data comes out wrong sometimes and it doesn’t give an accurate account of what songs you have been listening to for the month or all time since integrating the app.
On the photo above the Spotify data says Radiohead is one of my ‘Top Artist’ with 19 listens and below on my ‘Top Songs’ Radiohead makes the list twice with ‘Lucky’ and ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ with 18 listens and 10 listens which comes to 28 lists- which makes it impossible for me to have listen to Radiohead on 19 times as the ‘Top Artist’ data suggest.
Over at the ‘Top Album’ section it says I have listen to the Radiohead album ‘The Best Of’ 49 times which seems more accurate. But the jumbled data makes me question how many times I really listen to the albums, songs and so on.
I guess it’s not a big deal because it is primarily a ‘fun’ app but if the data was accurate it can highlight interesting trends and may even be a money maker.
Let’s say Facebook and Spotify used the data to promote albums that record labels pay for, it could boost sales.

Well that’s just a thought.
